I am acknowledging receipt of your emails to the State Board of Education regarding the construction of cell towers on school property in the DeKalb County School System.
Though the state board members appreciate this opportunity to communicate with you, it is important to know that this issue is not under their authority. Our state constitution provides local school boards with the management and control of public schools, and this limits the Georgia Department of Education's and State Board of Education's authority over the operations of school systems. Accordingly, you must communicate your concerns to your local school system leaders. To assist you, I am copying Dr. Cheryl Atkinson, Superintendent of the DeKalb County School System, on this response. I am in complete opposition of the cell phone towers going up in any populated communities!!! My health and the health of my communities and the value of our homes would be at risk, if the towers were allowed to exist. Money is T-Mobile and ATT concern, but the existance of our communities are more valuable!!!!
