RESPONSE: from County Commissioner Gannon's Office

Thank you for contacting Commissioner Gannon’s office regarding cell towers on school grounds.
The DeKalb County School System is a separate government entity which owns and maintains their school properties. They are exempt from county ordinances and do not have to comply with DeKalb County zoning requirements for cell towers or any other structures. They do request building permits and will have building inspections. The construction of cell towers or any structure on DeKalb School System property does not require a vote from the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Gannon encourages you to share your concerns regarding the cell tower at Margaret Harris Comprehensive School with the elected Board of Education members who represent Margaret Harris.
Thank you
